I had been in California for nearly three months when my now ex wife and I decided to separate. It was a sudden turn of events in a marriage that lasted just shy of a year. Quickly needing to secure a divorce attorney, I happened upon the Law Help Center’s website, and contacted them. In such a period of seemingly bad fortune in my life, I had the good fortune to get to hire Attorney Tony Catena as my counsel.

Within a minute of speaking to Tony for the first time over the telephone to complete my free consultation, I was set on him as an attorney.  Attorney Catena was incredibly personable, made me feel comfortable, and had the invaluable characteristic of being a terrific listener.

Attorney Catena demonstrated an encyclopedic knowledge of marital law and explained things and responded to my concerns and questions clearly. Additionally, he habitually made himself available as needed, and as he could—but he was always THERE. As my wife and communicated through our attorneys only, Tony continually kept me in the loop about my case, and when correspondence from opposing counsel had been received, he would call me to discuss it. Tony shined for me in these moments as he demonstrated—and provided—strategies as how to respond to the opposing parties’ claims. He always left it up to me. He helped me to be stable and sensible in moments when my emotions in such a maelstrom seemed to get carried away. Tony, too, could quell anxieties I had division of assets—for example, or probabilities of outcomes that maybe would not be the most desirable to me, saying things, for example, like, “Joe—I get it. I understand your concern, but the probability of that concern swinging that way, is probably less than ten percent.”  Another attribute to Tony is that he will tell you how it is, and keep you in perspective of what is worth fighting for, and what is not.

What I truly relished in my time getting to work with Tony were the times in person. Whether on the telephone or in his office, I was always impressed by Tony as a listener. He always allowed me to express—and finish my thoughts, concerns and feelings.  Perhaps it is the attribute of the greatest attorneys that they also happen to be the greatest of listeners. When I would see Tony to talk about my case, I never felt rushed or that he was not in the room.  Even after we had discussed my case, he would ask, “how’s everything else going?” Since I was fairly new to L.A., and all this went down, I was able to open to Tony about adjusting to life in a big city not knowing anyone, the blow of having a marriage end, and just over all—how I felt. He treated me like a friend—a good friend.

After my divorce was finalized, I reached out to Tony again as a previous landlord of mine failed to return my security deposit in a timely manner. Tony drafted a letter to the landlord within two days, and after the landlord willingly submitted the deposit to me.

I was blessed to have Attorney Catena, the  Law Help Center and their first rate staff for their attentiveness, provision of documents, and aid, making a turbulent time less so.

Anthony (Tony) Catena was hired by a friend of mine escaping domestic violence and threats to her life. She was taken to court by her ex for custody of their daughter. I helped this friend closely during this process, and was very involved in the court process in addition to all the personal aspects of such a situation. Tony was like a grounding pillar during this time of turbulence and fear. He was not only extremely professional, his kindness and patience were so remarkable that at times it brought me to tears. He not only believed my friend, he was exceptionally good at helping to keep her calm and grounded and rational when fear would allow her to get carried away. He fought well for her and her daughter, and went above and beyond to help make the process bearable. The case was won with a better outcome than I even imagined possible (I had no idea abusive parents could be required to prove psychological progress in treatment) and I intend to recommend Tony to anyone I know in need of a kind, compassionate, dedicated attorney that ensured the best possible legal outcome.

Had some serious family law issues... I needed a very competent lawyer who I felt comfortable sharing my story. Its a sticky situation! I owed a lot of money and my ex wife just wants to destroy me. First attorney I spoke with gave me good feedback, I felt he knew exactly what was happening and I was confident they could help me with my case. I was given another attorney had to explain the situation all over again and we went back and forth for a month in emails (which they charge for). In the end the new attorney made me feel hopeless and wasn't much help. I spent almost $1000 on just emails back and forth to be told there wasn't much they could do. Total waste of time, emotional energy, and money. :(

Sadly we had a very unpleasant experience with this office. Front desk was very rude. Mark would take months to return necessary paperwork for us in order for our case to move forward and when he did return it, it was incorrect. And when we questioned his office they would get irate that we would ask questions.
Sadly we parted ways We invested plenty of money and he never followed through.
I would never recommend this organization. He made promises to our face he obviously never intended on keeping.

In all my times watching trials and waiting on my turn in court, I have to say my lawyer, Anthony Catena is by far and away the best I have seen. He knows family law inside and out. He really cared about my case and took the time to listen to my fears and make sure he had all the facts. When we were leaving court after I had WON my trial, the Bailiff even said, "you're a really good lawyer." I would not have been comfortable or at ease with anyone else taking care of my case.
