So the biggest compliment an attorney can probably get is when their own client's ex-wife leaving a 5-star review for their firm, rather than for her own attorney; which is what is happening right now. By the end of my divorce, my attorney at Perry Johnson was fired and Brian Lanz handled all the concluding legalities for both my ex-husband and me. He was always respectful even though he was still only representing my former spouse. He was very easy to work and communicate with & responsive to calls/emails.

Brian helped his client bleed $80,000 out of me (which was horrible for me, but great for my ex). A four-year marriage with no children, and (obviously!) NO PRENUP. (If you are planning to get married, get a prenup, no matter what!!!) I was ordered to pay him spousal support (about 1/3 of my paycheck went to palimony), and a chunk of his attorney's fees. While this doesn't seem fair, it's the law and it's meant to protect some of the people, some of the time. It's not about man vs. woman; this happened to me because I was the bread-winner; something I am extremely proud of (even though it cost me a lot of money in the end). Another $20,000 was my attorney's fees, just FYI. Family law attorneys obviously don't lose any sleep over how people are treated, so if you're the kind of person who could treat another human this way, he is def your attorney!

I owned my home before I was married, and I responsibly paid my own mortgage with my own income. I foolishly never charged my husband rent of any kind, or even asked for help with HOA fees, since it was my house. He took care of his own bills and I, mine. However, my own income became community property once we married, so that gave my ex an interest in MY home. It takes a special kind of greediness to pursue that interest, in addition to chasing the money I had contributed to my retirement over the years we were married. He had little retirement since he didn't work much, but I faithfully paid into mine out of every paycheck. I had no idea any of it was even at risk, but here I am paying off a refinance on my little condo instead of paying off my original balance.

I can sleep at night knowing I have the respect of my friends and loved ones, and that I worked hard for everything I've earned. Life shouldn't be about getting ahead by taking advantage of others. If you want an attorney who will really "go for the throat" in zealous representation, hire Brian. He was better to work with then the firm I originally hired, and he did a great job (for my ex). His assistant, Sheena, was very sweet on the phone and through emails, too.

Life doesn't always go how you want it to, and this divorce was almost as emotional at times as the unexpected death of my little sister because it felt like I was losing my best friend, all over again. It doesn't feel that way once you see someone's true colors though. I was constantly given positive, encouraging advice by friends and family. If you're reading this review, perhaps it will help you also:

Most funny: "This too shall pass. It may pass like a large kidney stone, but it will pass."

Most honest: "Getting divorced sucks. Being divorced doesn't."

MOST IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:

*** "IN A WORLD WHERE YOU CAN BE ANYTHING, BE KIND." ***

I approached Brian for help with some divorce filings. He was cheerfully willing to meet with me and guide me through the process of filing my own papers. As the divorce became more complicated, I retained Brian to represent me in court.

Brian is not only a well informed and competent attorney, he is also an intelligent and pleasant human being. I interviewed four other attorneys in the area and I have watched several others at work in the courtroom, and I simply could not make the same statements about them. Brian has good integrity, legal smarts and courtroom savvy. He is a unique man whose services I recommend.
