Mary and her amazing staff made a difficult divorce as easy as possible for my mother, who wasn't sure where to even start! It was such a relief knowing that Mary was fighting for her; her professionalism, compassion, and experience are unmatched. Communication was swift and efficient, and she made sure my mother received everything she was entitled to. I can't thank her and her staff enough!

Mary Commander and her team worked diligently on my case until I was satisfied with the outcome. I met Ms. Commander at the start of my separation from my ex husband of 15 years. I wanted to have someone represent me who was excellent in their field, had a great reputation in the community, and was familiar with military law. I was very aware that my case would take awhile due to many military deployments and our children involved. The team was in frequent contact with me and kept me abreast on the next steps throughout my case whether it was over emails, text messages, or conference calls. They provided me with realistic possible outcomes during mediation so I could avoid a trial. Unfortunately, my ex husband did not want to negotiate and a trial date was set. Ms Commander and her team continued to negotiate my terms on my behalf up to the moment before I had to stand before the Judge on the day of my trial. Throughout this entire process, I felt as if I were a part of the team's 'family' and I was always warmly greeted. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcomes on my cases regarding my divorce, child custody and child support with Ms. Commander.

Mary Commander and the staff of Commander Law are top notch! At every court appearance my custody desires were relayed effectively. As can be expected, going through a custody dispute was a taxing and confusing process. I was able to call or email Mary or her staff and receive an almost immediate response. At the conclusion of my case, I walked away with an outcome that I was completely satisfied with and that was in the best interest of my family. ** With no hesitation, I am providing a 5-Star rating **

I have experience with Mary through the legal profession in the court system, and I have know of her and known her for nearly two years. And although I have always held her in high regard, my opinions about her skyrocketed when I had occasion to engage her as counsel for my own legal matter. I cannot say enough about her responsiveness, her sensitivity, her attention to detail, her incisiveness, her preparedness and her legal acumen. But even beyond these essential qualities, there is such a wonderful sense of goodness about Mary. She is generous with her time, she is generous with her energy and her effort. She is KIND. She has a wonderful heart (AND a terrific sense of humor!) She and all her staff reflect all of these things as well. If I were an attorney, I would model my practice upon what Mary and her group represent. Wonderful, wonderful. So thankful!

I was in the nastiest divorce/spousal support battle I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I really felt like my back was against the wall (literally) I met with Ms.Commander and she gave me a reasonable retainer fee. Right away she went to work ,filing motions ,requesting reviews and so on .After three court of appearances and countless emails things turned in my favor! Thank you! For excellent representation, truly, Anthony Artis Sr.

I had a great experience with Commander Law. The staff is AWESOME!! I was represented by Mrs Mendez, who is absolutely amazing. Mrs Mendez shined in the court room and had the visitation case dismissed prior to trial! Thanks again to everyone in Commander Law, you all are the absolute BEST!!!

I had two different attorneys prior to going to Ms. Commander for my son’s custody case. The first one was what I call a “divorce mill” attorney. It was supposed to be quick, easy, and cheap. Two sayings come in mind, “You get what you pay for...” and “Pay now or pay later...” Little did I know at the time, that divorce decree would be by far the most expensive piece of paper I ever paid for. I did get the divorce finally using the separation agreement he helped write, but it had many problems that I wouldn’t learn about until later, most immediately being the custody arrangement.
I ended up hiring my second attorney seven months after the divorce to challenge the custody arrangement. He was an older attorney and might have been a good one at one time, but he was past those days. Not only was he literally laughed at by those in the courtroom (and not in a good way), but he allowed me (and himself) to be torn apart by my ex’s attorney, who I will call “Mr. Weasel-Face” for confidentiality reasons, in front of the judge. In the end, as I would eventually find out, my second attorney was just as big of a con artist as my first attorney.
After the debacle of my first custody hearing, I decided to do a consult with Ms. Commander to see if she could possibly turn my case around. Other than retaining Ms. Commander, this was the best decision I ever made. I know some people get turned off by paying for an initial consult, but like I said before, “Pay now or pay later.” Generally speaking, free consults are what businesses and other professionals do when they are trying to increase their clientele. Ms. Commander doesn’t have this problem, and it means that she isn’t wasting time with “non-paying” clients. Time that she can use working on your case instead. She works long and hard on her cases. I oftentimes received emails from her that were timestamped in the middle of the night on weekends and holidays. That being said, she is fair and ethical in her billing practices. Unlike some attorneys, she isn’t going to bill you at her rate when her paralegal is doing the work at that point in time, and she isn’t going to bill you for two hours on a one hour job. (Also, her entire staff is awesome as well... Abigail, Emily, and Tatiana.) Her reputation speaks for itself and for good reason. She also doesn’t cut corners. She wins cases the right way and ethically, and I get the feeling that a lot of the judges know that about her. If you are looking for a shady, lying attorney, go to Mr. Weasel-Face. If you want an attorney that is going to win your case, go to Ms. Mary Commander.
As an active-duty service member and seeking custody from a stay-at-home ex-spouse, I had a long, uphill battle. In the end, even after my ex tried reporting multiple bogus complaints to CPS and every law enforcement agency that would listen, I still got everything I asked for in my custody case and then some.
Mary, I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for myself and my family!

Couldn’t ask for a better lawyer. After a long drawn out custody battle, Ms. Commander shined in the court room. We got everything we asked for, something that many people had told us was not going to happen. Guess they didn’t know who our lawyer was. She also helped deal with the constant shenigans that my ex concocted that involved CPS and the police. Don’t know what I was thinking when I married that one, but I finally made a worthwild decision when I retained Ms. Commander. I am very thankful for her and her staff. She is a formidable lawyer that wins ethically! Love her and staff!

Commander Law did an OUTSTANDING job of handling my criminal expungement case. Tatiana Mendez is who helped me out. She did great work. She kept me thoroughly informed and was extremely knowledgeable about the legal process in which I had to take. I couldn’t be happier with them. They’re a truly professional outfit and I give them my full endorsement.

Attorney Commander and her entire staff were outstanding. I went 10 years without any cooperation from my ex-spouse regarding her divorce decree responsibilities. Attorney Commander resolved my issue in less than 2 months. She and her legal staff are responsive and on point... As a retired military officer, it was very important to me to have someone represent my interests who understands my perspective and pays attention to detail. Attorney Commander is not only a superior advocate, she and her staff provided me with top advice when decisions had to be made... Finally, I would like to add that I live in another part of the U.S., but needed local representation in the Tidewater area. Attorney Commander and her staff were always accessible and responsive to my questions throughout the entire process, even though I literally live in another time zone. Five Stars are not enough to express the work they did for me. These folks are top-notch. As a military man, I would never go into a battle without the best. If you have to go into a legal fight, you have the best with Commander Law - period.

Integrity, civility, knowledge, and experience. These words are what describe Mary Commander and her legal team.
Hands down, Mary Commander knows the Virginia family law, and practices civility and integrity from start to finish. Mary is tougher than nails and handles any high-conflict and nasty opposing counsel with ease. Mary is reasonable and the entire legal team will have you and your children’s best interest as a priority. Regardless, if you have mediation or need to go to court or trial, Mary is a strong litigator and will have your back.
From the beginning, Emily (Mary’s receptionist) was prompt, patient with my numerous emails, and very responsive. Most of all, when things seemed bleak and overwhelming, Emily was considerate, patient, and kind with every one of my visits to their office.
My first visit with Mary was a preemptive and strategic move as my ex had not filed a motion with the local court yet. Mary did not want to take a retainer fee unless needed. This was different than the 7 other attorneys I’d met with in the local area. Mary is 100% the epitome of integrity and is up front with you about your case and will NEVER charge you unnecessarily. For any other reviews that dislike what Mary might say, it is only because she will be honest and never sugarcoat any situation. This is what you need in an attorney and a legal team. Good or bad, you need an attorney and team that won’t run up the bill or be fake with you.
A little bit after I met with Mary, the ex eventually filed numerous motions. I had approximately 60+ pages worth of discovery and questions to respond to. As chaotic as it might seem, Abby(Mary’s paralegal) made sure the process was seamless. Abby’s prompt communication and “hand-holding” made the prep for the court hearing much easier. In fact, Abby had even more experience and knowledge than my ex’s own attorney! The entire team kept me in the loop and made sure all my questions and concerns were promptly addressed even with Mary’s schedule.
Mary is the attorney you need. Granted you never know what a judge might say or decide, but the team at Commander Law will do everything they can to ensure your things go in your favor. There is nothing more reassuring and uplifting than seeing Mary in action in a courtroom. It‘s a great feeling when Mary and her team are fully prepared and state your case eloquently while opposing counsel continue to stumble in their responses to the points Mary brings up. In any case, if you need to go to court/trial, Mary is an incredible pitbull of a litigator!
I know that my ex will continue ongoing/future frivolous litigation, but as long as I have Mary on my side, I know it will be okay!

Went through first a drawn out, emotional divorce and subsequently a child custody battle a few years ago. Ms. Commander not only skillfully navigated me through the divorce process, but allowed me to negotiate for custody of both my daughters. Her paralegal Abby was great at making me feel comfortable with her very personal touch, making a difficult situation seem as though I had a genuine connection and support. Ms. Commander didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear (as I can be very overbearing) but gave me situations/scenarios to make my own informed decisions. She was always straightforward and honest with me. I had a great experience with Mary Commander and all her staff.
