At first Mr. Wright did an ok job. I felt adequately represented by him my first time in court. He was giving me "discounts" on the billing and everything seemed good.
However, as time went on, his billing became confusing. He even explained it himself in an email to me as "clear as mud". He would send a very large bill by mail, but then tell me a different lower price in person and tell me I was paid up. I didn't worry too much because he said I was fine.
Once we were in court again, he did not represent me at all. The opposing side did all of the talking and Mr. Wright just stood there. I nudged him to say something and he shushed me. When the judge asked if we had anything to say, Mr. Wright told him "we are fine". We were not fine. I was trying to get a restraining order to protect me from constant harassment and was trying to secure a safe place to do custody exchanges.
I understand fully that a lawyer can not guarantee results, but I feel that I should expect that my lawyer would at least speak up and represent me. If the judge does not agree with what was in our declaration, the least my lawyer could do is ask why.
Before we were in court, Mr. Wright said time and time again that the opposing side was afraid to go up against him. It was also his suggestions that we go after what we were going after and he did nothing to back up his own recommendations.
After court, he told me that I should seek a more aggressive lawyer.
I had paid him recently and thought that my last payment would get us through the trial. I assumed I was done with him. Instead, I got a large bill that said we owed back pay. It turns out that I was never paid in full all of the times he told me so in person. I tried to work things out with him but he refused. We ended up going to arbitration to settle how much would be owed. The arbitrator found that we did not need to pay him the full amount that he was asking for.
I have since found a new attorney to help me who is much better and much less expensive.
