They are pretty good. They handled multiple of my family's cases. The only thing before I choose him, they hardly had any reviews but negative. But they didn't say the $%. They do 30%, iI trial [ I think] 40%. But they do descent work. But expect to do a little work. I was happy with my overall services. And would recommend this lawyer to anyone. Everyone at Travis Black Law Firm is very helpful, knowledgeable, and happily "take the wheel" for those of us that are a bit challenged when it comes to all of the little things that turn out to be very important in an injury case. When you are in pain from the injury, you naturally don't want to deal with the case, and Travis Black and his associates become extremely helpful in keeping the ball rolling. Kelsey, the attorney within Travis' office, is incredibly helpful in getting things taken care of (documents obtained, phone calls made, etc) and keeping your head in the game when you just want to give up. She was even able to get my settlement payout a tad higher before closing just because she figured she could since I have been dealing with pain for so long and she didn't want to leave me feeling empty-handed. Would give 5 stars had I met and talked to Travis Black himself. I never even saw what he looked like. Maybe my case was completely under Kelsey, or if he was just too busy but I would have liked to have had more time with him than a phone call since it was his name on all of my documents. I was in an auto accident and generated medical bills, ambulance bill and personal out-of-pocket expenses. My Farmers Insurance agent and Farmer claim adjusters were no help. El Dorado County Ambulance was sending me threatening correspondence letters regarding the 2000.00 ambulance bill. I have Kaiser insurance that covers the ambulance charges. I called them several times to resolve the billing but to no avail. Then they sent me a letter saying they were sending this collection the El Dorado County DA's office for collection proceedings. Well, that was the last straw. I needed an attorney to represent my interests. I searched the Web and found a local Attorney that sounded like a good fit. I wanted a local attorney for convenience. I filled out the on-line questionnaire. I was worried my case would be to small to interest them to take on. But the office called and asked a few professional questions and set up an office visit. The visit went well and they agreeded to take my case. The first thing my attorney did was to resolve the El Dorado County Ambulance collection concern. The next time I heard from El Dorado County Ambulance was for the 50.00 dollar Kaiser co-pay deductible. That was such a relief for me. The rest of the case was settle with the "AT Fault" Farmers Insurance policy holder. Then Travis Black, on my behalf, settle all medical liens Kaiser held against the settlement. The auto accident was horrible and left a wake of problems that I did not have time to deal with. Travis Black and his associates handled all my concerns and interests within a very reasonable amount of time. I consider myself lucky to find an honest attorney that was a pleasure to work with. He and his associates did a great job and I do not know how he did it but I received 60 percent more money than I was expecting for my injuries. I used Travis Black and Associates to help with a settlement from an auto accident. They really took the time to sit down and listen to whole story so they could provide the best help possible. They made the process very easy and painless for me. In addition they explained each step and process to me so I could know what to expect. I am an attorney and have known Travis personally for over 20 years. I have had the opportunity to try 2 cases with him and found him to be very capable. Over the last many years I have found he really cares about his clients, Fights hard for them, and wins cases for them. I would have no qualms at all about hiring him for a case of my own. I was not impressed with the level of service or representation that I was expecting for a 40% fee! Basically I was involved in a accident where I was injured. I was originally planning on handling the process on my own and was talked out of it by a friend of mine. I set up a consultation with Travis Black and Associates and was assured they would fight for me and would easily obtain twice what i could on my own so the 40% really isnt 40%. I trusted them and started treatment.
I treated with chiropractic and PT for several months and then got better and stopped treatment at my doctors and lawyers recommendation. During this 6 month process i talked to the associate lawyer 2-3 times max every time she was telling me how sorry she was I was having to go through is and not to worry they were going to handle everything.
So now I am done treating, Now comes the part where they live up to the lawyer reputation: So first I receive a call from this Associate lawyer and she is laying it on hard about how tough the insurance company is being and painting a picture that they are really fighting hard for me, yet it isnt looking good. More scare tactics about how at this point we will be lucky to get the medical bills covered. It seemed very scripted. She said she will continue fighting and get back to me. 2 weeks pass and she calls back. This time she reports good news: We got your medical bills covered so you arent out of pocket. She says this like I should be happy about it. Again very scripted. When I dont bite, she starts to lay on the scare tactice very hard about trial lawyers and the insurance companies dont care, and that they are going to trial on all of these lately. She then starts to tell me that we really dont have a strong case because its a soft tissue injury and I never got any MRI's. She asks me why I didnt get MRI's?. So, I hire them to represent me and now its my fault we dont have a strong case! I was not happy and let her know and she stated she would have Travis give me a call. Another week or so passes and I receive a call from Travis who moves with no delay into a large very scripted ramble about the insurance companys and trial lawyers and private investigators etc... He is putting it on strong trying to scare me into accepting $ nothing for all of my pain and suffering. He asks me if I play sports of any kind, then asks if I go to the gym, he's trying to get a bite on anything, claiming the PI's will find out and expose it all. After I dont bite and stick to my guns he asks me if I am ready to go to trial? Are you ready to sit through days and days of trial, with the risk of losing and owing money? Not to mention your time away from work and your family? he the asks me what is the best part about my job? I answered his question and then he answered his own question stating the best part about his job is to be in trial and that he is ready to go. Again very scripted. 2 weeks later the associate lawyer called back very happy to report she was able to negotiate a higher payout but they are not going any higher! It was still so minimal I again refused. A week later she came back with another offer stating she got the doctors to lower their fees and Travis agreed to take a smaller cut as well. In order to just be done with it all I accepted the offer even though it was peanuts for the pain, suffering and lost time I went through for this injury.
Overall, I was not impressed as I dont believe they were operating in good faith. I can guarantee you I wasnt the first or the last client they have treated this way. Beware!
