Mr. McCarthy was retained to defend Victor Ortega in a first degree murder case. He informed the family that Victor case was a self-defense/manslghter case that he would charge $40,000 to defend. When the family was only able to come up with $10,000, instead of telling judge he would not be able to represent Mr. Ortega and allowing him to retain another attorney, he effectively threw the case to the prosecutor by not calling a single defense witness in a first degree murder case. Because of Mr. McCarthy"s inaction Mr. Ortega received 50years to Life. This young man will never get out of prison as a direct result of Mr.McCathy"s ineffective council. Mr. Ortega would have received a better defense from a public defender! Honestly I don't know how Mr. McCarthy sleeps at night!!!
