Spencer Young is an employment law attorney based in Oakland. I had a case against him recently and was very impressed by him. He was very aggressive and clearly cared about his client. Spencer is knowledgeable about employment law and willing to fight to the death for his clients. As a fellow employment law attorney, I wouldn't hesitate to refer him.

Mr. Young was paid a substantial amount to represent me, failed in adequately handling my case, admitted not knowing the area of law, when i expressed concern about his failures, he quit stating we didnt get along... If you received this type of poor service, you would be upset also. Mr Young breached the contract, took my money and ran. If he had good faith, he would not have taken every payment and then quit. Mr Young's lengthy rebuttal about my feelings did not get me my money back, finish or win my case, leaving me in a worse position than when i hired him. Find yourself another lawyer; don't say you haven't been warned!!!

I hired Spencer for a consultation regarding my LLC's potential exposure and risks under AB-5. Spencer asked me ahead of our call to provide, in writing, my specific questions, and one by one, he went through them with me explaining what my risks are and under what circumstances they could be triggered. He used many examples to show how the law might apply in different scenarios and related them specifically to my business methods as well. He even offered some suggestions about how to legally mitigate my exposure. It was an hour and money well spent.

I hired Spencer to assist with a presentation and an audit. While on the phone with a client the client decided they didn’t want Spencer’s services. I had paid a 50% deposit to ensure Spencer showed and to make sure he felt comfortable that I would pay in full once service was complete. This was after several back and forth exchanges about his rates - conversations of which he would later attempt to bill me for even though these conversations were discussions about what he would be doing if we worked together and what the rates would be. I sent a letter of disengagement that was mutually confirmed. He didn’t do the presentation and didn’t complete the audit. Since I had prepaid for a presentation and audit 50% I asked if he could finish the audit and then we could call it even. He refused. I said if he wasn’t going to complete any service then it would be a total cancelation of service which is fine but my money needed to be returned. He also declined willingness to do this. I’m asking why he was feeling so strongly about this he referenced a conversation that was supposed to take 15 min that took 55 min and that he stepped out from a birthday party to take it. The 15 min call was about his rates and what he would theoretically be doing in working together and was not a consultive service. I was frustrated that he felt he should be paid to negotiate his rate. I was trying to be accommodating and allow him to keep the first payment intended for the presentation if he were willing to complete the first step of our work together and formalize it into a tangible document. Instead Spencer seemed to feel I should pay him almost $500 to negotiate his rates and to do an initial call where he asked questions of a client in anticipation of a diversity audit but not actually complete the diversity audit and still get paid for it. The agreement was not an hourly agreement it was for a service which was not rendered due to cancelation. While I was excited to find a new local partner that quickly became an uncomfortable, unprofessional and unfortunate situation when I had to dispute with my bank due to his business practices. He also sent me a hostile email saying don’t ever contact him again and that he was blocking me when I reached out about him completing half of the service he was contracted to do or to return my money. Had he not mandated me not to contact him and he would have been willing to have a professional conversation if sure we could have come to terms. It’s not the kind of temperament that I’m used to with subcontractors, attorneys who care about diversity as employment lawyers or small business. I was disappointed and bummed about the experience and I hope in the future that this will be a one off situation for him. He otherwise was willing to step in in an emergency last min project of which he was made aware of the circumstances surrounding it and the urgency and needs.

5* - if I could give more, I would. A young female, who suddenly found myself up against a HUGE organization, Ehud with Spencer Young's office went ABOVE AND BEYOND to *listen* to me tell my story.

I spent hours (literally) filling out online attorney inquiry forms. Ehud got back to me in under 4 hours with both an email and phone call. He was PATIENT in explaining legal concepts (verbiage) to me, KIND toward me and my vulnerable situation and KNOWLEDGEABLE in regards to employment/labor law. Ehud doesn't commit to something that he can't do and I appreciate that his golden word; he called when he said he would and got the answers to questions - points of clarification that he needed - as promised.

Although what I thought was a case, wasn't really a case, I feel confident and secure in the information that was relayed to me and am truly thankful and appreciative for the employment law crash-course!

The guy is the definition of efficiency. I have an issue that I wish i had called him about 1st. I called this morning, he got back to me within an hour. He took the time and told me his truest opinions on my issue which i feel confident in trusting, he even took the time to look up a few words i was given to help me gain a more accurate judicial comprehension. Mr. Young was even kind enough to provide me a few solid contacts for other issues surrounding my ordeal.
I trust God, Jesus, my parents, my personal injury lawyer and now Mr. Young, I trust the guy like my grandparents!
Allow me to again state, I get a very straight forward and honest feeling from the guy, I trust his experience, given the opportunity in the future, he WILL be my 1st call!

I needed a release form for my dance studeo. Spencer drew it up for me for a very reasonable fee. It's just what I needed and he didn't mind taking on such a tiny job. I shouldn't be surprised because he's a pit bull in a fight for the people being treated unfairly in the workplace, so of course he would care enough to solve my minor issue.

I found Spencer through a mutual contact after I was terminated while on disability and lost my medical coverage, including the ability to pay for treatment for the injury. That first phone call with Mr. Young mostly consisted of me crying and trying to explain the timeline of events, but by the time we hung up, I knew I had made the right decision to call him. Throughout the entire process, he was nothing but professional. He listened when I voiced my fears, he explained everything in detail so that I stayed informed, and he helped me recover my lost wages and medical fees. I honestly don’t know how I would have survived without Spencer in my corner fighting for me. I am currently embroiled in a bad situation at work and frantically messaged attorneys this morning for consultations. Most responded with hourly rates. But Spencer called me and gave me an hour of his day at no cost to really listen, probe deeper, ask questions, and ultimately provide me with the courage and framework to move forward.
