What is the deal with this firm? The lady who answered their phone kept cutting me off and talking over me, not letting me explain my situation. She didn't give her name and was belligerent. She said they don't serve the area I live, but it shows on their website that they do! I was referred to this firm in good faith by another firm that's just too busy right now to take any additional cases, and it seemed Eviction Defense Center was my last hope. What a horrible thing for people like me and everyone else in desperate need of help with no apparent other options in sight!

We had a fight with our landlord and they took us to court and the EDC saved us. They not only helped answer all our questions, file all the papers and defend us in court, but they set our mind at ease. It was a truly awful experience and they made is all better.

Eviction defense isn’t doing this for free. Their getting paid. They lay in bed with the evicting lawyer so you might as well go straight to them that way it saves you some peace of mind.

My first meeting was with Peter he walked me through all the steps, with the God and ESC I won my case. They are a true gift to the community and they seriously fight for the underdog. So thank you Peter & Josh

When I came into the office initially, I was treated respectfully by the attorney who listened to the facts of my case. He told me repeatedly that he was not sure if EDC could assist me; because my case involved a third party named on the UL detainer papers - a HAP agency, ABODE Services. He said that he would consult with the director of EDC and to call back for an appointment when I had received the UL detainer papers by being served. I followed his instructions. When I called back, the person who answered the phone told me to call back after the new year when the office was open again. However, when I followed his instructions, no one answered the phone; so I left a message. No one returned my call to make an appointment. So, about a week later, I left one more message with no return call. When I did reach someone on the phone, I was told to stop calling because they could not help me by someone who was rude in his tone of voice and kept repeating himself saying, "Ms. Simon, stop calling us. We can't help you" as if I were uneducated and stupid. This person is very unprofessional and I noticed that he was condescending to others in the office while I was waiting to speak with an attorney. The person who sits at the front desk is also very rude and condescending. She talked to me like she was talking to a child. I am 64 years old and I am working on my second Master's degree. When I told her that she did not need to address me in that manner, she tried very hard to defend herself. I think that between her and her cohort who was rude to me when I called, that these two have colluded to deny me services. They are not the ones in charge, but they have a "gatekeeper" mentality. I intend to follow up with their source of funding to make a formal complaint about the way I was mistreated. I highly suggest that anyone who has been treated unfairly by this organization do the same. No one deserves to be disrespected by disrespectful, condescending clerks.

What a crock this place is. They did actually call me back so I give them 1 star for that. The guy that was supposed to help me help my cousin basically had a goal to get off the phone. I tried to tell him what we had done and what we were hoping to accomplish and basically said, "if you're not going to do what I say then I can't help you" and hung up on me. I hope that my Federal and/or State dollars are not paying for any part of this useless organization.

I called to speak to someone in person. Although they said they couldn't help I honestly believe that they should have listened to my whole story. All they asked was what kind of documents I received and told me they could not help. Hung up on me and that was that. I feel my case is something to look into. But they wouldn't even listen.

They are extremely helpful and explained every step of the process. Also very inexpensive I spent a total of $400 for their entire service including trail. I appreciate everything they do for the community and holding shady landlords accountable.

EDC provides quality eviction defense for defenseless tenants, and helps keep families in place. There is a tidal wave of evictions in Alameda County; the courtrooms are full of banks and landlords evicting tenants in order to raise rents. EDC is doing an excellent job in a very hostile environment. The other "reviews" prove my point. I am an attorney who reluctantly will do eviction defense when I cannot turn my back on the need. EDC attorneys are an inspiration when I find myself in trial court.

They are rude and insensitive to the ones asking for help. They wouldn't listen to me with updated information that would work in my favor with my eviction . Their attitudes and professionalism was nonexsistant . They carried themseleves with a-HOLE WRITTEN ON THEIR FOREHESDS. It felt like they coulalmost maybe worked for the other side

EDC would not go to trial unless their defendants would pay EDC at least $1500-$5000 (no public defendant lawyer for civil case and defendants are fee waiver or not fee waiver, EDC wants MONEY) in advance before court trial. I have a copy of EDC contract. EDC can do nothing, but threaten landlord to allow defendants to get freee stay at your house. GO TO TRIAL AND GET BAD DEFENDANTS AN EVICTION RECORD SO nobody would rent their properties to them.

I served jury and attend unlawful detainer trial. EDC lawyer would not show up in the court. Even, defendants got a lawyer or legal aid, they lost the case for non-payment. I attended many jury or bench trials in Oakland or Hayward court house. If defendants were not non-payment cases, the landlord always win. Don't be threatened by EDC lawyers. In short, EDC lawyers, paid by tax payer money, can't go to trial without collecting money from defendants because tax payer does not provide that money. So EDC only can threaten you to get a settlement. After reading my finding, please go all the way to trial and get those defendants evicted so other landlords would not suffered from these defendants again.
