After a motorcycle accident, the driver's insurance company offered a ridiculous injury settlement. I had a few doctor visits over hand pain, and their x-rays showed nothing broken. I figured it would just take a long time to heal and didn't want to run up a large bill to the insurer.
But I still had a lot of pain and loss of strength. And what they offered was insulting.
I contacted Mr. O'Connor who instructed me to go back to my doctor and tell him I was still in pain. The doctor finally referred me to a hand specialist who determined, in about a minute, that I had torn the ligament off my thumb. They would need to remove a ligament from my wrist and nail it to my thumb and allow it to scar in. I worked throughout (with one hand) and there was no loss of earnings.
After their next offer, and next, I followed Mr. O'Connor's advice (he made it clear that it was my decision, but gave his advice) and rejected the offers.
As we neared the court date he called them and got the full policy amount! All of it!
I received about twice as much as I would have had I taken their earlier offer.
Mr. O'Connor was always available for questions, and returned calls quickly when he was unable to pick up the phone (which he often did!).
Then, when it was all over he negotiated with my medical insurance company and settled their payment for less than half of the bill!
