In MY opinion, after communicating steadily with Disability Rights California for around ten months, this is an organization that takes the funds given to them to defend disabled citizens like myself and allocates them to who they like and withholds them from who they do not like. "Like" depends on: how you behave - because they make SURE you know that they hold the purse strings and legal power, how grateful you are, if your case appeals to THEIR moral compass and how long and hard you plead for help. Essentially, what you are in for is EMOTIONAL ABUSE. That is exactly what I endured and that is exactly what I got out of it all. Rebecca Hoyt (attorney) and Connie Chu (managing attorney) turned out to be some of the worst emotional abusers that I have ever encountered. WHO DRAGS SOMEONE'S HOPES ALONG FOR ALMOST A YEAR ONLY TO TELL THEM THAT THEY STILL HAVE NO ANSWER OF GETTING ANY HELP AND THEIR CHANCES OF GETTING NO HELP ARE A REALITY when you are a disabled person who has been denied ALL of the help that you are legally and constitutionally entitled to from the Department of Rehabilitation and where you were discriminated against and denied that help then you turned to Disability Rights California for help and they make you jump through paperwork hoops and wait and wait and wait and wait and then after almost a year, they finally say that they are helping you only to turn around and say: "But we have not committed to helping you on paper so just know that we are not committed and may not really help you. It ALL depends on IF we want to. And they string you along and string you along and string you along and do ABSOLUTELY nothing. Tell you to WAIT longer. Meanwhile your E-N-T-I-R-E financial life SUFFERS and your children SUFFER because of a lack of income that you were entitled to getting help with from DOR. They don't care at Disability Rights California if you are suffering because THEY are getting a paycheck and paying their bills and lavishing good things on their children so who cares if yours are without decent food at home or without ANY of the luxuries that theirs can afford. BEWARE not to waste your time with them UNLESS - they like your gratitude and behavior that LITERALLY HAS TO FEED THEIR HUBRIS in order for their services to be FINALLY, FINALLY rendered to the CHOSEN few. As for FUNDING them - if you are contemplating a contribution, spend your time insisting on an investigation that reviews clients who were not helped by Connie Chu and Rebecca Hoyt to discover how they were emotionally abused like I was and then, when the results are in - advocate...compensate....legislate for BETTER and more COMPASSIONATE attorneys than Connie Chu and Rebecca Hoyt because vulnerable disabled citizens that are coming to Disability Rights California deserve help NOT emotional abuse.

They are a free non-profit law firm focusing on disability rights such as Medi-Cal issues, IHSS, Dept. Of Rehab issues, Regional Center issues, Disabled Transportation rights and Housing reasonable accommodation issues. Their advocacy staff are very friendly and patient. Call them right away to schedule a call with an advocate because it usually takes one to two weeks. They have lots of resources and publications to help.
